Hargreaves Lansdown
ShareCalc reads the CSV file of transactions you can download from Hargreaves Lansdown (HL). Use your Fund and Share Account only. ISAs, Lifetime ISAs and SIPPs are free of capital gains tax, so you don't need to import them.
ShareCalc imports the capital account. Dividends belong to the separate income account and must be added manually.
Export and import
- Sign in to HL and open your Fund and Share Account.
- Open the capital account's transactions.
- Choose the dates you want.
- Download the transactions as a CSV file.
Export all transactions since the account opened.
Use non-overlapping date ranges. Only some transactions have IDs; see duplicate handling.
Add the files to an import in ShareCalc and leave File Format set to Auto-detect. Use the files exactly as downloaded: don't open and re-save them in a spreadsheet first.
Coverage
- Buys and sells, in pounds. The amount is the total cash paid or received, including HL's dealing charge and any stamp duty, as the file doesn't split them out. A share bought in another currency is imported in pounds, because that's all the file shows.
- Money paid in and taken out.
- Interest on your cash, and interest charged.
- Account fees, and fee refunds.
Each transaction is dated the day of the trade. The file has no times. Anything else in the file is listed in Import Messages and not imported.
Not imported
Add these yourself in Transactions, or with a ShareCalc CSV:
- Dividends. They're paid into the income account, which isn't in this file. Your HL tax certificate lists them.
- Shares moved into or out of HL from another provider.
- Splits, takeovers and other company events that changed your shares.
Checks and fixes
Review Import Messages and follow the shared checks.
- New shares in Assets. Shares are identified only by description and added as Unclassified. Add a ticker or ISIN where known, and merge duplicates caused by name changes.
- Your cash balance. Money moved from the income account to the capital account is imported as a payment in. If you also add your dividends, that money is counted twice. Check the cash balance in Accounts, and remove one of the two if it is.
